Likely To Be Imploded

List Author: Hunter
Description: Here's a list of places that are likely to go bye-bye in coming years.
  • Imperial Palace - Harrah’s hasn’t said for sure but I will not be surprised to see this place go.
  • New Frontier - Probably the most certain and likely of the upcoming implosions, the New Frontier will most likely be dust within a year.
  • Stardust - We know that Echelon Place will be rising on the Stardust site about a year from now. Make reservations while you can!
  • Riviera - Someone will almost certainly buy this property and rebuild, even if not immediately. There’s a lot of land in this parcel, all the way back to Paradise Road and the Convention Center.
  • Circus Circus - MGM MIRAGE won’t be talking about it until City Center is at least partially opened but eventually, CC will go.
  • Tropicana - Owner Aztar has been quietly talking with folks and filing building permits with the County.
  • Sahara - While it’s possible, it doesn’t seem likely in the near term. There was an article in the LV Sun just the other day (see the blog for more details) about how the folks running the joint are not actively looking for a buyer and while they would sell they only will do it if they get the right person… with $700 million in their pocket.

Circus Circus still turns a very nice profit. If I ran the company, I would think twice about tearing it down.

We have been hearing the Aztar rumors for several years now. I think it’s time to make a definite announcement. Will be a shame to see it go.

Yeah… along with Circus Circus I bet you Slots O’(smelly) Fun will go crumbling down with it. I can’t believe that is an MGM property!!! It smells like my local flea market. Hahaha!!!

I heard Excalibur might be going too if the current union contract expires.

Yeah, I agree Excalibur should be imploded. The red interior color scheme is ugly. If not implode it atleast refurbish the place.

I tried to book a room at Trop in may, and they aren’t taking any reservations after April 15th. Also, Boardwalk is (thankfully) about to go soon.

Circus Circus might turn a nice profit, but you’ll be surprised to know that what Circus Circus makes in one year Bellagio makes in one month. Anyway the rumor here (at MGM-Mirage) is that it’s staying and it’s definately getting some remodeling so count on it being there for at least 3 more years.

Yup, Billy is right. Circus Circus is a consistent earner but the plot of land is HUGE and as Strip land values continue to rise on the Northern end, MGM will be plotting the redevelopment of CC.

As far as I can tell, the low-rollers are going to be pushed downtown over the next few years.

Yeah, that does seem like a real possibility. I’ve actually been working on a blog article talking about this very topic – the squeeze on the middle market. It will be interesting to see this and other similar issues unfold over the next few years as these other high end properties come online.
