- Green Valley Ranch - We love this place! We make it a point to go there at least once every trip. We enjoy the buffet, the ambience of the casino, and the staff is usually very friendly. We also enjoy spotting the staff we knew from the American Casino show.
- Palace Station - Not much in the way of ambience, but we have had many winning sessions while gambling there. They have a good selection of machines, I especially enjoy the Super Times Pay Video Poker machines, and they have quite a few of those. Another regular stop while we are in town.
- Sunset Station - Went there for the first time last October, left with over $3000 by the time we were done. We hadn’t even checked into our room yet at MGM Grand! This will also be on our list of local places we make a point to stop at. Again, good selection of machines to choose from.
- Palms - I am including this on the list because it is a local casino of sorts. We used to make it a mandatory stop every trip, but it is now off the locals tour. We have not won there very much and had an awful experience with the buffet one Sunday evening. It was filthy and understaffed. The food was not good, even the prime rib had a funny taste to it. The drink service is the worst I have ever seen, you can hardly find a waitress to bring you a coke if you are dying of thirst. I went to the food court and bought my own because I got tired of waiting. I felt very taken for granted.
- Red Rock Station - I am hoping that this will be a welcome addition to the local scene, so I am including it on the list. I hope to see many comments once it opens, I won’t be able to see for myself until late May. Looks like it will be another winner for the Fertitta boys.

Hunter, I haven’t frequented the locals casinos much in the last few years, but always had a soft spot for the $1 minimum/10x odds craps tables at the Fiestas (the minimums have likely been raised a little). I LOVED the Fiesta Henderson when it was the Reserve. They always seemed to have a good crew working there and the music selection in the casino was a great variety. Comps were fairly easy as well! - over 2 years ago by Hank
Sam’s Town has always been a favorite of mine. The food is your average buffet fair, but they have the friendliest staff and the wife and I have won a ton of money there on their many full-pay video poker machines and their penny slots. - over 2 years ago by Mike

If you are staying out in the hinterlands of Lake Las Vegas, the Monte Lago is a nice, full-service casino adjacent to the Ritz-Carlton. This is expensive real estate, so the table minimums are closer to what you find on the Strip, but they also deal some $5-10 games. There is also a casino just down the road at the Hyatt Regency, but don’t waste your time. They only run the table games during the evening, and the whole thing shuts down from 2am to 10am.
