Best High Limit Rooms

List Author: PunterGoop
Description: This list is only based on the rooms I've played in and is of course my own opinion. In fairness to some of the other major high end (or wannabe high end) hotels, I have not played at the Venetian or Mandalay Bay high limit rooms.
  • Wynn Las Vegas - This is a tough entry since I’ve only played in it twice but I’ll rate it as #1 since I think its best in terms of facilities and decor. My own feeling is that it hasn’t gotten the same amount of play yet as the Bellagio room (not including the semi-private rooms) but it’ll probably get there. What really clinches this one for me is heading out to the balcony out back over looking the pool. Its a great place to have a drink and get some air.
  • Bellagio - I’m putting this second largely because I don’t like some of the design elements in the new changes, otherwise the expansion is great. Like the MGM Mansion and Caesars Palace, this high limit room is enclosed well enough to keep the gawkers out (something Wynn and Mirage don’t do). Table service appetizers are brought out in expansive carts and the plates made up right there, versus some other places where you have to tell them what you want and they go in back and get it. This place is also the best right now in my opinion in terms of atmosphere, it still draws the bulk of the big players it seems.
  • MGM Mansion - This can easily be the best high limit room in all of Vegas if they want it to be. Its the largest just in terms of sheer size, its set back so you get almost NO gawkers. The front area with mini-bac is somewhat “fenced-off” and even though its open people don’t walk in but just watch from outside and probably think that area is the entire high limit room. This worked well because it completely prevents people from walking into the back where the real room is, and the private facilities there are great. It has at least 3 lounges, actual “powder rooms” to freshen up in w/o someone taking a dump nearby, and everyone working is tux’d out, white gloves, etc.

Its the only high limit room that really feels like a separate casino within a casino.

  • Caesars Palace - I know this will probably have to fall of the list with the Harrahs takeover, but for now its here. In all fairness, I’ve only played here twice and never really explored much of the space but it is expansive. Service is top notch, I’ve walked in from outside somewhat sweaty and as soon as I sat down a waitress would be by with a water and a wet towel. I came in once in the middle of the night during a rainstorm, the cuffs of my pants were soaked and the pit boss offered to have someone bring in an air drier. I thought that was cool. The back room lounge is nice with the usual types of beverages, finger foods, congee, big flat screen TV, waiter, etc. The one time I sat there it was the middle of the night so the spread was pretty light. From what I saw, they have a ton of baccarat rooms. This is the place where I seem to see some of the biggest blackjack action.
  • Mirage - I hate putting this at the end with the huge renovation thats taken place and the new high limit room which definitely ROCKS. The bar in there is one of the best touches by far. However, I place it last because the 2 times I’ve played in the new room there have been tons of technical problems (speakers messed up, computers down, a bunch of other things). I’ll reserve the right to raise this ranking if its better during my next trip. Drink service in high limit rooms is always fast, but the Mirage is lightning speed because the bar is right there. It literally takes about 30 seconds to get your drink from the CW after you order it. I like the new design, its very modern/contemporary or whatever you want to call it so it is a big change from other rooms that try to look old-world chic, it takes a little getting used to. This is another room, similar to Wynn, that needs time to evolve. The one thing I wish is they enclosed it a little better, its just up on a slightly raised level and pretty much completely open to the rest of the casino.

Nice and very detailed descriptions. I only once took a peek inside one of the baccarat private rooms at Wynn (I was employed to play a practical joke on one of the dealers—long story), but never got around to really checking it out since I’d only be taking up space. I’m really interested in seeing those terraces I keep hearing about.

I think you’re going to like the new look of the high limit room at Wynn. Darker carpeting and heavier draperies go a long way in making it much more private and exclusive.

Mike, are you saying the Wynn’s high limit room has already been re-decorated? The last time I played in it was in August. Did they make changes since then?

I saw one of the semi-private baccarat rooms in action as well when I was walking by, didn’t catch much detail but thought to myself that if I had that kind of cash I still wouldn’t want to be that isolated from everything else. But who knows how the super-rich think?!

Yeah, but it’s not a drastic change like at Mirage or anything.

And yes, it changed sometime in December.
